Nowadays, there is a variety of cushioning and filling packaging products on the market. Whether it is the traditional pearl cotton, foam, corrugated paper and other buffer filling materials, or the new inflatable bag type packaging materials have their place. As inflatable bags of packaging materials with environmental protection, saving money, buffering effect, and many other advantages, there are many types of inflatable bags derived from the products. For example, bubble pillows, bubble bags, bubble film, gourd film, air column bags, quadruple row, etc... Although all of these products are used to form an airbag inflated film to protect the goods, they are slightly different. However, two of the products, Gourd Film and Air Bubble Packaging, are relatively similar in that they are both inflated to form tiny bubbles to prevent the goods from being hit in transit.

Both products are mainly used for mailing packaging, so Gourd Film or Air Bubble Packaging?

Air Bubble Packaging was invented by American Mark Shalwana in 1960 and is also known as air-cushion film, air bead film, bubble cloth, etc. Because of its good shock absorption, impact resistance, heat bonding, non-toxic, tasteless, moisture-proof, corrosion-resistant, good transparency and other advantages are widely used in the express transportation industry to protect goods.

Gourd film is an inflatable film made of polyethylene, which not only has the same advantages as bubble film but is also an environmentally friendly material that can be recycled.

The difference between Gourd Film and Air Bubble Packaging is twofold: the size of the bubbles and the cost of shipping.

The first is the size of the bubble after inflation; Air Bubble Packaging has relatively tiny bubbles, and each drop is independent of the other, so if one bubble ruptures, the location cannot be protected. On the other hand, Gourd film is different in that the bubbles formed after inflation are more significant and can withstand a more substantial impact to protect the product. At the same time, the bubbles are connected in series, so if a bubble is subjected to a significant impact and deformed, the gas inside the drop will be squeezed to other drops to avoid damage from the immense pressure. When this force disappears, the gas will go back to the original bubble and return to its original form. Finally, gourd film and bubble film are wrapped around the product to protect it from all angles.

The second point is the cost. The difference between Air Bubble Packaging and Gourd Film is not much in terms of the purchase price. However, in terms of overall cost, it is more appropriate to use Gourd Film. The reason is that the bubble film is vast and takes up a lot of space after it is produced and filled with air. Unlike gourd film directed and stored in rolls, a single piece is only the thickness of two sheets of A4 paper, saving a lot of storage and transportation space and saving costs. However, it needs to be inflated when it is used, which is inevitable.
